Sedona is internationally known for the uplifting powers of its’ vortexes which make it a great spiritual holiday escape. Rivaling the most famous vortexes in the world it ranks up there w/ Bali, The Pyramids of Egypt and Machu Picchu in Peru. I felt the unique power of this special place!
What is a vortex anyway? This goes back to one of my #1 beliefs; that the world is a special place. There is beauty everywhere but you have to be open to it…”what you seek, you shall find….”. Sedona makes it easy! Vortexes are a spot on the earth where energy is either entering into the earth or projecting out of the earth’s plane. It is said to be whirling & vibrating….sound trippy? Well it is….but no ganga needed! Really! Vortexes have also been called “invisible and potent spiritual energy”.
But, again, “what you seek, you shall find…”. I am always seeking & I always find! I felt the swirl of energy and felt like I fell into a storybook from my childhood at a known strong vortex….& I was discussing the story of the snake I stepped on as a barefoot little girl & looked down to see a snake at my feet! Did I conjure the snake? What is it about this place?
So, Let’s Talk Top 11
Gastronomic Delights:
Let’s get the most important part out of the way first! Where do you eat?? This is a category in itself as there is SO much fabulous food in Sedona!!
- ChocolaTree Organic Eatery https://chocolatree.com/–funky vegetarian eatery where you get a real taste of Sedona. The real hippies hang out here, you get a real view of the people of Sedona and the FOOD is sublime! Everything is organic and yummy!!
- Elote https://www.elotecafe.com/ for Southwestern & Mexican cuisine. Try the elote which is mexican street corn.
- Indian Gardens Cafe & Market https://www.indiangardens.com/ this place is the cutest & has the freshest food…I love the pozole & loved it…I still think about it!! They are open for breakfast & lunch or you can pick up sandwiches for your hike.
- Last but not least, Hideaway House https://sedonahideawayhouse.com/ you can’t go wrong! Casual, lots of outdoor space w/ views of the red rocks & delicious food!

Epic Hikes (including Vortexes):
- Devil’s Bridge: Let’s Get Active! I will say that if you don’t want to get active…Sedona is probably not for you + then you don’t feel as guilty about all the great food you are going to eat. Can you stay at one of the nice resorts & sunbathe…yes, but you will want to explore the natural wonders of Sedona. That’s the whole point! Let’s start w/ Devil’s Bridge…this is a tourist hot spot SO go early! It is 2.9 miles one way & then you have to head back. We went early & there was a queue to go out onto the bridge for your picture. BUT, I will still say it is worth it…

- Seven Sacred Pools–this is a easy hike 2.8 miles out & back. You can sometimes even find tadpoles in the pools. The Seven Sacred Pools are said to be nature’s version of the 7 main chakras in the human body that hold spiritual energy. Nature holds so much spiritual energy!

- West Fork Trail–this was one of my favs & was a very spiritual place for me. It takes about 2-3 hours & you walk over creeks that lie between the “painted” red rocks…the rocks looked like they were painted by an artist but it was all nature’s doing….Breath-taking!! We also saw a herd of javelinas (members of the peccary family, a group of hoofed mammals originating from South America) crossing the road on the way.

- Cathedral Rock–1.4 miles but will take 1.5-2 hours as this is a more difficult hike where you do have to scramble up steep rocks halfway through. I did not do this hike but it’s on my list for next time. To reach the cathedral at the top looks epic! I’m definitely doing this one the next time around!
- Airport Mesa–we did yoga here & there is a known vortex on this site! More on the yoga experience below as I do believe is a MUST-DO in Sedona on its’ own.
- Buddha Beach–this is a great one b/c it is NOT crowded! We saw a man playing music by the creek and did not see another person!! It’s also a short one, only about 1 mile and you see cairns set up everyone along the water. What is a cairn? It is a human-made pile of stones that are used a lot as a trail markers. You will see these on trails to keep you on the right track. In this case, scattered along they beach & water they look like tiny buddhas!

Can’t Miss Places:
- Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village https://www.tlaq.com/ is authentically fashioned after a traditional Mexican Village and is an outdoor market. You will often find live mariachi and other authentic acts. The cobblestone streets and arched walls make this quaint village a must-see. I did not eat at The Secret Garden Cafe https://sedonasecretgardencafe.com/ but will next time as it’s super cute and was crowded! Stop at Chai Spot https://www.thechaispot.com/

- Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park–spiritual destination for people of all faiths. You find people in silent reflection as this park offers a place among the red rocks for silent reflection or meditation. It is worth the visit…take it in, read about some rituals, try to expand your mind about things which you may not understand…

- Paige Spring Cellars https://pagespringscellars.com/ for morning yoga by the creek and then do wine tasting and eat in the Bistro! This is about 20 minutes from Sedona.
- Do Yoga on the Vortex!! We scheduled thru this company & had an awesome instructor! We were taken up to a known vortex on Airport Mesa. https://aumbasesedona.com/
I am dreaming of going back to Sedona as there are several things I still want to do: Cathedral Rock (mentioned above), see the pictographs at Palatki Heritage Site & honestly I would do EVERYTHING that I did the first time all over again!
